Margaret Thatcher was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire, on October 13th 1925. Thatcher was a good student, so she was accepted into Oxford University, where she became interested in politics. She was elected a Member of Parliament in 1959 and actively worked for the party leadership. Thatcher won the party leadership election in 1975 and became the leader of the Conservative Party. Margaret Thatcher was the first woman to lead a major political party in the UK.
